3 Super Simple Autumn Centre Pieces

My mum is the queen of festive decorating. Every event that can be celebrated or decorated for you can guarantee that my mum has gone all out to showcase it. It used to be only the big ones: Christmas and Halloween. Now, however, the end of Christmas brings New Years and then Valentines Day, Saint Patrick's Day, spring, Easter and so on. In some ways I am pretty sure my feeble attempts to follow suit are a tiny bit of a disappointment to her. Still, my own little family does enjoy my sad efforts to…

Fun Gift Wrapping Ideas

For me September is kind of like the beginning of gift wrapping season. My son's birthday is at the end of the month, my daughter's is in October, and if I am being totally honest, the beginning of November marks the start of the Christmas season in my house. I actually love gift wrapping though so I look forward to this time. I am always on the look out for cute new ideas to spice up my creative wrapping. I thought I would share a few with you and maybe when you have some gifts…

Making a Juju Hat for Lorraine

I can say with a certain amount of assurance that I know a lot about home decor. Beyond my own obsession I also went to university for interior decorating so generally speaking I am hard to totally stump, which is why a text from my friend Lorraine doing just that was pretty surprising. She wanted to know if I could help her make a juju hat to hang in her bedroom and I honestly had no idea what a juju hat was. Before I could agree I had to do a quick google search to…

Moisturizing Lavender and Lemon Bath Bomb

Technically speaking I don't know if this can be called a bomb exactly as it doesn't fizz up when it goes into the water but it does dissolve nicely and leaves your skin feeling amazing. I had no citric acid or essential oils so this is not going to be like most of the tutorials about bath bombs but it did turn out pretty much as I expected it would and I was happy with the the result I got. This could be just what you need to unwind after a long day! These bath…

3 Homemade Mother’s Day Gifts She Will Actually Want

Here in the UK Mothering Sunday is coming up very soon, my readers from other countries have more time but it never hurts to be organized. I always feel like I am pretty easy to please - being remembered is all I really need. Flowers, chocolate, socks, a card, all good and I imagine most mums out there feel the same. Still every once in a while we want to do something a little different and we need a little inspiration to help us. I thought long and hard about what I would enjoy receiving…

How To Completely Overdo Saint Patrick’s Day

I want to preface this by saying that I do not usually go overboard for this particular holiday. Although I admit that I have been known to do that for some holidays, Saint Patrick's day usually isn't one of them. I have been know to wear green or cook green food for the kids but that is about as far as I go. This year I accidentally volunteered to plan a Saint Patrick's day themed activity for the youth that I work with through church and it got a little out of hand. It really did…

Our £150 Room Makeover

Both of my kids have outgrown the way their rooms were decorated, not to mention that both of them had serious storage/organization issues. I do partially blame the way houses in England are built for this because they seem to have something against closets and I am not sure why. They are so handy for storing clothes and organizing some of the things that we have in bedrooms but the fact of the matter is that very little built in storage is available in homes here. We are actually kind of lucky because a couple of…

Ikea Furniture Makeover

I have a love hate relationship with Ikea. They are small space geniuses and nobody loves walking through their 200 square foot spaces and seeing just how livable they make them more than I do. Seriously they have almost convinced me that I could give up all my stuff and live comfortably in one room with nothing but a hotplate to cook with - they are that good. When I graduated from my interior design program I even toyed with the idea of actually trying to become one of the brains behind the impossibly tiny…

Exfoliating Sugar Scrubs

I have this thing with having my skin feel soft and smooth. I detest when my legs brush together and they feel unshaven. Despite this I can't convince myself to shave everyday so I wear a lot of trousers and I have pretty much never owned a nightie. The addition of scrubs into my life has been a serious help. I heard somewhere that if you shave your legs then use an exfoliating scrub and then shave again your legs will stay smooth for way longer and I have to say I think it's true. Still…

My Festive Manicure Fail

This past weekend I had a Christmas Party to attend and I had the idea that it would be fun to give myself a holiday themed manicure. I have mentioned before that I don't really give myself manicures, choosing more often than not to have natural nails on my hands. It can be time consuming and messy and I am extremely right handed so always a little lopsided. Nonetheless I figured for this occasion it would a fun experiment. So I went out and got the few items I didn't have that I would need…
